On September 14th, I arrived at the airport of Cancun. with my two suitcases and my guitar. A taxi driver took me to the Ibis Hotel in downtown Cancun. Initially, I had problems with my banking app. Later, this was resolved, and my energy started flowing.
For the first three weeks, I'm in downtown Cancun. The Ibis Hotel is a great place for me. I'm slowly getting used to the energy here and closing off the Netherlands. I'm in the so-called gray area. I closed off the Netherlands and I don´t have contact with my friends here from Mexico. That still needs to happen.
After two weeks, I started WhatsApping with various friends from Mexico. Eventually, I found Florian again. He's in northern of Mexico, but he'll be in Cancun in a week and a half. We arranged to meet up, and it was so nice to see each other again and catch up.
Then he calls me on Sunday evening. He asks if he can meet me at the 7-Eleven behind the hotel. I wait for him. And who shows up? Jesus with our dog, Guillermo. So good to see him again. So good to hug him again. And yet it's different. It's a hug that also serves as a final goodbye. Guillermo, who meant so much to me, who helped me through difficult times, like the hurricane and the flooding in the house. Guillermo was also the link between Florian and me when we couldn't communicate because we didn't speak each other's language. I didn't speak Spanish, and Florian didn't speak English.
After saying goodbye to Guillermo, I began my search for a house in Playa del Carmen. Through a friend of my singing friend Ana, I was offered an apartment. I went to see it with Florian. The apartment looks beautiful, is immaculately finished, and with air conditioning for dry air, it's a great upgrade compared to my apartment in the Netherlands.
On Monday, October 18th, Victor arrived and took me, along with my suitcases and guitar, to the apartment. So happy to see him again and catch up. We can communicate better now that my Spanish is better and he knows a few English words.
Later that week, he's going with me to La Plaza de Americas to get a SIM card for my phone and some household items. It's so nice to do this together.
Good memories from earlier times come back!
