I arrived in Playa del Carmen in October. For almost two months I've been living here now. It's a fantastic place to live. Besides the wonderfully warm climate, plenty of sunshine, and the beautiful white beach, there's also the wonderfully positive, relaxed atmosphere that characterizes Playa del Carmen.
This positive atmosphere is especially evident when you step outside. You hear music everywhere, no matter how big or small the restaurant or bar is.Around four o'clock in the afternoon, you'll already hear live music in the restaurants. You'll often hear solo artists or duos performing acoustically at this time.
Between five and six o'clock, mariachi bands, dancers, and street performers appear in downtown Playa del Carmen. They're fantastic to watch and listen to. They also enhance the atmosphere in the town center and bring the streetscape to life.
After 8:00 PM, the restaurants primarily feature live bands. They provide a variety of music styles, with each restaurant featuring a different musical genre. Music styles range from rock, country, salsa, latino, pop, and mexican music like mariachi. There's something for everyone.
You can also participate in karaoke at various restaurants. This creates a cozy atmosphere and encourages connection with each other. It's a lot of fun. English pop and Mexican songs are often sung.
A great place to experience this is Restaurant Vagabunda 38. This restaurant is located near the beach in the center of Playa del Carmen. The food is delicious, and there's live music every day. Saturday nights are always a fun karaoke night. You can find live music announcements on the Vagabunda 38 Facebook page.
If you love country music, this restaurant is definitely worth to visit on a Monday evening. There's always a great country band playing. So you'll find music everywhere in Playa del Carmen. The importance of music to Mexican people is evident in the anecdote below:
A month ago, there was a power outage due to a thunderstorm. I was lying on my bed in my apartment in the dark. Suddenly, In the dark evening I heard my neighbor's trumpet. He was happily playing in the garden. His music brought a big smile to my face. How positive can you be!
